Update ONLY the Original Cod4 Folder with these files.
Note: you need both of them to upgrade to 1.7. I would suggest you download it at night time or off peak hours because update 1.6 takes 282+mb to download.
- Once installed, you need an updated punkbuster to play on the Official Server List on Garena. Skip this step if you just want to play on user created rooms without punkbuster.
Once downloaded, run the installer and choose Call of duty 4 and locate the 1.7 installation folder. It will then update the latest version of punkbuster. There are detailed instructions on the site so you won't worry about it.
Note: you will see a task manager process such as PnkBstrA.exe and B, this is normal.

I hate Punkbuster when it kicks me out. I'm not even cheating!
Make sure 1.6 patch is downloaded first or else the game will not run correctly to 1.7 versions. It greeted me it Iwd errors.
Also, check your directX and install it first.
I learned the hard way and I reinstalled the game to run correctly.
